Shifting Global Consciousness through Integration
Virtually every religion has split, created sects and divisions, over and over again. These splits have been over theology, personality, administration, corruption, and just about anything else you can name. In addition, different religions have fought over who is right, who's God is best, how to practice most perfectly, or what litmus test of belief one needs to pass to be considered a true believer.
For the first time, a religion, a spiritual tradition, is seeking to heal its own split. The United and International Centers for Spiritual Living just had their annual Leadership Gathering in Denver. This was the first, ever, combined annual meeting. The two organizations, both teaching the same philosophy, the same healing and affirmative prayer, the same everything, have been separated since 1954, like twins separated at birth. And now we are well on the way to becoming ONE again.
This healing is the beginning of a shift in consciousness. While our world may seem to have gotten smaller, it also seems we have become even more fractured and divisive in the process. Fundamentalism is playing this out to the extreme in both faith and nationalism. Being a part of a coming together such as is happening in the Centers for Spiritual Living, is the beginning of reversing this process. Rather than continuing to stand on our differences, we come together in the celebration of these differences, within the heart of Unity and Oneness.
Oh, no one says it will be easy. But when we stand in the conviction of each other's good will, even a few bad apples can't spoil the basket. The compromising, consensus building, seeking the third way, and re-aligning with what it fundamentally supportive between us, are all practice for what is required for the world to heal and come together in a new way.
Being part of this is the beginning of building critical mass for the shift in consciousness necessary to change our world. Not to make us all the same, but to remember that fundamentally we are all one - to learn that our differences can be celebrated rather than create division - that this uniqueness provides richness and texture and creativity, while knowing that we all actually are seeking for the same joy, fulfillment, and opportunities in life.
