Orange Vmeme - Strive Drive
On this upward movement of Spiral Dynamics, the orange is a swing back to "me" and my wants and desires. Much of the impetus for capitalism and the desire to achieve, succeed, and create wealth is a product of the orange worldview. The orange worldview rebels against the idea of any "Higher Authority or Power" beyond themselves; thus they emphasize a can-do attitude. In addition, they seek to make life better for themselves through all sorts of innovations, technology and forward thinking. This is progress at its best!
Many people come into our New Thought communities moving into or already deeply embedded in the Orange Vmeme. This is the impetus for the self-help movement and so much of our abundance and prosperity programs. "The Secret" is a beautiful example of the orange point of view focused on spirituality - there's always a sense of wanting and achieving more. Our greatest entrepreneurs and industrial barons are orange, and boy, do they know how to make money!
If orange is involved in helping others, it will be primarily to help others find their own sense of self-esteem, self-worth, and ability to self-actualize. Orange is about creating opportunities for other people to further themselves so they too can strive and achieve the life of their dreams.
At its worst, orange becomes all about me, and exclusively about me and what I want and how I can achieve it. Here's where corporate competition, shady Wall Street dealings, and the fear of not keeping up with the neighbors comes about. This same complaint can be raised about folks on the spiritual path, when it sometimes seems it is exclusively about "my" -- my own personal healing and transformation, my needs, my boundaries, and the fulfillment of my own desires.
This, of course, leads to the next swing up the spiral, to the "we" Green Vmeme, in which so much of our community is embedded.
