Parliament of the World Religions 2014...
in Dallas/Fort Worth!
The issues facing our communities, our families and our planet have become too large for any one group or section of society to handle. Environmental, social, economic, academic, and civic issues call for a multi-faceted understanding, and solutions that involve the social, medical, civic, political, academic, business, corporate, and religious/spiritual arenas to work together. However, it often seems that great divides exist between these various arenas and even within these arenas.
The DFW Interfaith Coalition will be hosting Dirk Ficca, Executive Director of the Council for the Parliament of the World Religions July 8-10. Dallas/Fort Worth is a Partner City with the Parliament AND an official bid city along with Brussels, Belgium and Guadalajara, Mexico. This bid has been put together by the DFW Interfaith Coalition, which already represents many religious traditions, politicians, spiritual communities, business leaders, humanists, and spiritual but not religious folks.
As Vice-Chair of the Interfaith Coalition, I am very excited about all the possibilities being a Partner City, working on this bid, and potentially hosting the Parliament in 2014, can do for the DFW area and the inter-religious dialogue world-wide. Spirituality and Faith have so much to offer in the way of working toward healing our planet, dealing with our social issues, and bringing out the best in people. The Parliament isn't about glossing over our differences, or trying to make us all the same. It is about looking for the convergence between us and harmony among us and building trust rather than agreement.
If you are interested in getting involved - please let me know. Drop-in on Thursday, July 9 between 1:30 - 4:30 to meet Dirk FIcca, and to find out more about this process and how you can get involved. If you know leaders in any of these areas who you think might be interested in being involved and supporting this effort, please let me know that too.

Beautifully worded, Petra!
