The King's Speech
If you haven't seen it yet, treat yourself. Superbly acted by the three leads, a loving study in overcoming our short-comings, this film left me in a deep state of contemplation. It's the first non-action film I've been to in years where the audience burst into applause at the end. The fact that it was inspired by a true story made it, for me, even more remarkable.
The thing that moved me the most, was the support and help the would-be-King found in another. Oh, to have a goad, who believes in our possibilities enough that he is willing to take our petulance, our self-pity, and our anger and turn it all into grist for our own greatness! When you find or attract a goad like that into your own life, you will know that you have asked for, and are ready for, your own growth into greatness.
Usually we think support comes with softness, acceptance, and nurturing. It does. What it also comes with is prodding, and pushing, and pulling, and demanding. These are the sides of support that we like the least. Yet when these two are coupled together, and they are in service to our greatness, we have found true support.
Do not run away from your goad. Do not be afraid to allow your teacher or mentor, friend or confident' to mold and shape you using whatever tools are at his disposal. He is, after all, the hand of Spirit, moving in your life, to draw from you the very best you can be. As we see in this amazing movie, when this is coupled with true compassion and real understanding, a belief in what's possible, and a deep desire to grow us into our greatness, miracles occur!
This is what the eastern traditions mean when they speak of being obedient to your master. Not to let someone lord over you, mastering and abusing you from their own ego. But that you acquiesce to the shaping and molding, to the guidance and push from the one who sees greatness in you, a possibility for Truth in you, that you are not yet seeing, or believing, in yourself. Following this guide takes you places you never thought were possible for you before.
